We are happy to have Chasing Time Productions on board for York Street Studios Band Experiments 2011. Chasing Time will be providing a full music video as part of the grand prize package.

Ben Woollen and Scott Granville first started Chasing Time Productions in 2007. It was that same year they completed their first full-length digital feature film Pictures of You and in 2009, they directed and produced their short feature They No Longer Sleep Alone.

More recently, Ben and Scott’s latest short film Lily White has caught the attention of overseas film festivals. The film was officially selected for competitions at the Bodega Bay International Film Festival and the Palm Springs Short Film Festival film market in California. Recently, it has been accepted in World Kids International Film Festival. Ben and Scott also received New Zealand Film Commission First Writers Initiative in 2010.

Aside from the films they work on, Chasing Time Productions have produced the seven-part Waikato Football Show for Central Television in 2010, online promotional videos for English-based professional football company Premier Skills, music videos for local bands, web promotions for local businesses, and currently producing videos for world champion windsurfer Barbara Kendall and Health 2000.

2010 Grand Prize Winners Dick Dynamite and the Doppelgangers released their CD in all major music outlets with the Border distribution as part their winning prize package. The band also recorded and released their single “Deviant” for their recording session time at York St Studios.

Through digital aggregation supplied by DRM (Amplifier Ltd. Itunes, Marbecks) also part of their winning prize package, the band is enjoying a huge number of downloads.

The single was accompanied with a fantastic music video as part of their prize package (Indiefilm). Within two weeks of release the video received 5000 hits on Youtube! Currently the band will be looking at doing more pressings for their CD release. The band has now received airplay on some of America’s best known Rockabilly radio stations and DJ shows such as Wreckhouse Radio, Rockabilly FM and played live to airs on PBS (AUS) and 4ZZZ (AUS) Car Park event.

“Dick Dynamite and the Doppelgangers have the distinction of being one of the best rockabilly/psychobilly bands in New Zealand. A Dick Dynamite gig is never the same as the last one, each one is different and you can be sure gravity defying antics with instruments will happen at some point. They deliver an electrifying set every time they play and are amazing musicians live.” - Nexus Magazine

York St Studios has been a great supporter of our local talent. For the 3rd year running name rights partner York St Studios are providing valuable recording time to the winning band!

The York St Studios list of clients reads like a who’s who of the NZ Music industry. They have recorded notable NZ bands such as Crowded House, HDU, Shihad, Bailterspace and Fur Patrol. The list doesn’t stop there another visiters to the prestigious recording studios have included No Doubt, Chris Issac, Killing Joke and Interpol. Producers who have graced the skills at York St Studios have included the legendary Gil Norton (The Pixies, Foo Fighters) and Youth (Crowded House, The Verve)

In the heart of the studios control room is the vintage 1974 EMI Neve. There were 7 of these consoles made by the legends at Neve specifically for EMI studios around the world, one of which was in Wellington, New Zealand. One is at U2′s studio in Dublin, one is at ICP studios inBrussels, Belgium, two have been put together as one large console and is in Steakhouse Studios|[1]] in Hollywood CA, two are currently being put together at the Great Linford Manor in England and number 7 is here at York Street in New Zealand, which is the only one left in original condition and retains the same warmth and clarity as the day it was built.
York Street’s console (serial number A3095) is fitted with 24 inputs all with the very rare and sought after 1093 modules (5 band EQ) and has 16 returns. The console uses 1977 channel routing units and 3415 line amps. Kept in immaculate condition, the console is a lovely sounding beast.

Recently York St Studios have also teamed up with nzherald.co.nz and Hugh Sundae to produce “The Sundae Sessions” which films, records and showcases upcoming bands on the Herald site.
